When you think of family portraits, do you have an image of stiff, formal arrangements? We’ve all seen those photos of the family lined up in their best outfits, told to look at the camera and smile. These photos tell us nothing about the individual characters or the family connection.
Knowing that nothing looks as artificial as people forced to stand in a fixed pose and smile, I have a different approach. I aim to create a setting where everyone feels at ease, where interactions are natural and expressions are genuine. When families look at my images, I want to spark an emotional response. Beyond the faces, I want to transport them back to that moment in time.
In an hour-long session, I will encourage and capture the natural interactions between family members. It would be great if you can let me know whom to expect at the time of booking. The collection can include individual portraits, couples and images of the children, as well as full family group shots.
I pride myself in helping everyone to feel relaxed and behave naturally in front of the camera. I want your family portrait to be a fun experience, so will encourage you act, move and smile naturally for beautiful images that show off your personality.
In the studio, I offer a choice of two background colours and on location, you are welcome to bring a change of outfit, which adds further variety to the collection. Different background choices and outfit changes create fantastic images for your wall; please have a look at my Family Gallery to choose what’s best for your family.
During the photoshoot, I take many photographs. With a professional photographer’s eye, I will filter out and edit the best shots to provide you with the final collection.
You will receive these high-resolution images digitally, via Dropbox. The images will also be loaded onto my website in a password-protected gallery. This provides you with the opportunity to share the collection with family and friends.
For those images that you wish to display on your walls or give as treasured gifts, I can arrange for high-resolution framed prints, canvases or Acrylics. If this is of interest, I will be in touch to discuss sizes, prices and finish options.
On a chilly Autumn morning this picture warmed my heart. We all love a little distraction at work and when my son appeared from behind my backdrop I just had to take the photograph! Thank you to the clever writer - Jo Plumridge and editor for including it in the article. We have been testing out the new T-Bone bracket in the studio which is a revolutionary new background support system allowing me to change the colour of the background with minimal time and effort. Perfect for those family sessions where I like to mix it up a bit. For those with an interest in studio setups please read on through the excellent article to find out more. https://photographymc.com/
